It's been a while!

You know, I REALLY thought that when I (mostly) retired I'd have all kinds of time on my hands.  I was wrong.

We spent 10 hours on the road today taking Eve to her romantic vacay with Damon.  I won't do that much in one day anymore and the plan was for me to drive there, spend the night and drive back in the morning (to take a stab at cleaning the house because Susan and Dean will be here in the early evening for the weekend).  Well, as it turns-out the DH's car decided that since it hadn't really been DRIVEN for a few months, it wouldn't start so it went to the "shop" (where we are all on a first-name basis and practically family).  It needs the front brakes machined, the battery charged, and the A/C compressor replaced (again...this is becoming an annual thing) and won't be ready until Monday because they have to order some parts.  DH has to be at work early tomorrow so he drove us there and back because I just told him, "No.  I will NOT drive there and drive back in the same day.  Sorry, Bucko.  Not happening."  So, we were on the road 10 hours.  I will be returning next weekend for shows and will bring Eve back with me then.  Without further ado:

ALL the dogs:  Mom got us up at the butt-crack of dawn today, fed us and told us to exercise our asses because no one would be home the rest of the day until night time!   We did as she asked and managed to get a few good races around the kitchen/garage/run in before she put us back up (we were out for about 3 hours).  Then it was all quiet until it got dark, and then we heard the car pull into the driveway.  About 10 minutes later Mom let us all out again and said, "Do what you have to do and be quick about it.  Your time out tonight is limited because I can't stay up all night.  So we have been running-around for about an hour and mom just said the dreaded "Bedtime" word, so we are all trying to hide under the kitchen table where she can't find us.  She just called Daddy to help get us to bed, so we're screwed.  She DID promise we would be back to a somewhat-normal schedule for the weekend.  We're not sure what that means, but it HAS to be better than today!!!!

A few side notes from a couple of the kids:

Captain Kirk:  I was beside myself.  Mommy AND Daddy were gone ALL DAY today!  I didn't even get lunch!  I thought I might waste-away to nothing from lack of food and attention but when they got home I was still OK and Mommy says that means I'm a BIG boy now!  Go me!

Stephan:  Tai went to his new home a couple of weeks ago and it sure is nice being the only Poodle in the house again!  I dunno about that Tai - he was WILD!  But his new owners love him VERY much and Mom says he is very happy there.  He especially loves his new Daddy, who likes to rough-house with him.  I don't know what that means, since I am always just happy and obedient and the Perfect Poodle.

Dot:  Well, Eve left today.  Mom requested that if I am actually going to go "into season" I do so within the next week and stop messing with her so she can just take me for a "romantic vacation" when she goes to the dog shows and picks Eve up.  Apparently the man of my dreams is waiting anxiously to meet me and Mom doesn't want to make any more 4 1/2 hour drives than she has-to in a given period of time.  She wants you all to pray that I either come "into season" this week or wait a couple of months and thanks you very much.  (I am a little confused by all this, actually.)

So, there you have it. The DH is back at work full-time so I am getting things back to a normal schedule and hopefully will be caught-up soon!

Haha!

Kirk - you definitely ARE a big grownup boy, if you survived a day like that.  Most impressive.  I think you have a glittering future.  Most heroic.  Maybe one day you will Captain a whole pack.  It is experiences like this that make a Leader out of you!

Stephan - you sound like you are enjoying the space and showing Mum what you are made of now.  Glad Tai is happy. :)

Dot - don't worry about it.  The man of your dreams will fall for you the moment he sees (er... sniffs) you, and everything else will just follow naturally.  Including Mum loving your puppies whenever they arrive.  lol.
