Relaxing one more day...

Luna

We had a busy month during June and July is turning-out to be busy as well.  I have three show weekends this month, including one where I will be gone overnight for 3 nights.  Happy to report that my DH is now walking fairly normally and only has to use a cane occasionally...like our 2.5 mile trek with Grandson Parker through the Lincoln Park Zoo on July 4, lol!  It was a wonderful day!  Now, onto reports from the resident pups:

Jack:  Mom and Dad were really busy all weekend, but I still got some good walks,  On the bad, loud-noise day they were gone ALL day and we were stuck in our crates until almost 6 p.m.!  After that we got out to eat and play and Dad took me out for a walk.  Someone in our neighborhood was making VERY loud noises so I turned back home quickly.  Mom gave me some treats she bought for my baby sister Elle when she has a bath (does anyone know what a "Tasmanian Devil" is?), and in about a half-hour I didn't care about those loud noises at all.  Daddy said maybe he should have a handful every day.  Today, I got to go outside on my long-line for TWO HOURS, but we are supposed to have BIG storms in a little while so Mom brought me inside.

Gus.  Jack is SUCH a wimp!  Those loud bangs don't bother me at all and I wanted to go outside and chase those loud noises, but Mom said no.  On the other hand, we got LOTS of good treats on that day to make-up for having to stay in our crates almost all day.  Like we deserved.

Katy:  Jack is SUCH a wimp!  I'd have hunted-down and killed those noises and those sparkly things, but Mom said "NO!" so we were stuck inside again.  We DID get a bunch of good treats, though.  And we didn't have to sleep in our crates all night.

Drake:  Mom and Dad came home late on Independence Day (whatever that is) and let me out of my crate to eat!  My favorite thing!  I got to clean Mom's and Dad's ears!  My favorite thing!  I got to watch the loud and sparkly things outside!  My favorite thing!  I got to sleep on a snuggly blanket in the kitchen all night.  My favorite thing!

Corbin:  Mom and Dad have gone crazy.  They let us out early to potty and then put us back in them on July 4.  They came home REALLY late but we DID get to eat then and got to stay in the kitchen all night.  I don't know why they won't let us play with those "fireworks" things, but - as usual - we had to stay in the house.  My beloved Mona is apparently gone forever and I tried hard to romance Eve, but Mom told me, "Corby, she's been-there-done-that so leave her alone or she'll take your face off."  I am NOT happy.

Stephan:  Thank goodness that idiot Tai is gone.  I have always been the Perfect Poodle and now I don't have to deal with him.  His new people think he is wonderful, so that makes Mom happy.  I get to spend more time with her now, just giving and getting love.  Two paws up!

NaNa:  Life is good.  I get to play with my son now and then, and I get to play with my other doggy friends every day too.  Mom gives me cuddles every day.  Only problem is that Eve thinks she gets to be Alpha Bitch since Mona has gone to live with Dean and Susan.  I don't THINK so!

Eve:  I'm getting spoiled, as Mom thinks Damon and I made babies and they are growing in my belly.  I get extra raw food and get to sleep on the bed with Mom and Dad every night.  Of course, this is no more than I deserve!

Dot:  Hello from IA, aunties!  GD and I have finished-with our romantic holiday and I am being a VERY good girl.  Mom told my Grandma's Sarah and Jan that I was to get a hug and kiss from her every day and I HAVE!  I will be happy to be back home next weekend, though.

Elle:  I'm being a VERY good girl and Mom and Dad are VERY proud of me!  I have to go to dog shows again this weekend and I'm gonna show all those other dogs who's the BEST!

Kirk:  I've had a busy week.  Mom keeps taking me out to "socialize" me more because I'm a little "soft"...at least, that's what she says.  I got REALLY dirty walking-around Third Street on Saturday, and I got to eat ICE CREAM from Mom's cone!  Then I stuck my face on the ground and it got just as dirty as my feet!  It was GRAND.  GRAND, I'm telling you!

Loved all the updates :-)

Also glad you were able to enjoy the 4th with Parker.  You should have left his stroller at home and rented a wheelchair for him and Grandpa to tool around........zzzzzzoooooooommmmm!:dog:

I'm interested in the "very special treats" for baby sister Ellie's bath time.  Cowboy is going to be groomed in a couple of weeks.  He has no problem with me bathing him but does NOT like having his face/chin washed, also around his eyes and inside of his ears.  One of the most important things I want done is to have the hair on his head/face/chin cut short.  His eyes are goopy and I can't see what's going on.....maybe he just has goopy eyes or maybe all that fur is irritating them.  But I *need* to be able to keep them clean.

I'm afraid he will bite the groomer as he starts with warning gnaws on my hands when he's had enough face/eye cleaning and will quickly revert to "going Cujo".  I've been seriously thinking about using something to relax him a bit.  What is your "special treat"?

The special treats are CBD treats.  Here's the link:  https://www.treatibles.com/

They have hemp extracts in them and although there is no THC, there are other cannaboids and I have to say they REALLY worked for Jack, who has been terrified of thunder and other loud noises since we've had him (2006).  I just gave Elle one and in about a half-hour we'll do the bath and see if there's any difference.  I'll let you know.

Haha - I have a favorite cereal "Nature's Path".  The one I like has pumpkin seeds and flax.  I noticed a new choice recently that has hemp in it.  But........being older than dirt, being a cops wife :cops: and raising 2 girls I thought twice about going through check-out.    But for one of my dogs......no problemo!  Thank you Pam.

LOL!  Well, I can report that the treat didn't seem to make a white of difference with Elle, other than the fact that during the night she had diarrhea and threw-up, which I can only attribute to the treat.  I got her cleaned-up and gave her pepto and albon, but she was still droopy so we missed the dog show today.  On the other hand, Jack had no adverse effects from them.  Probably worth a try for Sky.

Thanks for the update Pam.  I sent an email to Treatibles today.  They replied and said they didn't know if it would work for the purpose I need......:-(

Sigh  -  I have made the appt for Cowboy to be groomed but will give her more info about him in case she wants to decline.  Not fair to bring in a cutie pie that ends up biting/breaking skin without her being prepared.

Hopefully she knows more tricks than I do.  Muzzling him wouldn't help much.......for one thing he has a very flat face and the other thing it is his face/chin/around the eyes, head that most need a short cut.  His fur is very different from Shorty's.  Very thick, silky and abundant.  I really need for the fur to be as short as possible around his eyes.  For one thing they are always goopy (why?) and for another I just cannot read his expression with those black eyes shrouded in black fur.

Most groomers have an extensive bag of tricks for grooming difficult dogs, and I'm sure yours in so exception.  If she finds him impossible to finish, she will do what she can and then call you.  Over the many years I've been grooming I have found very few dogs I was unable to do.  In those cases, I have always suggested having the dog go to a vet's groomer where the dog can be sedated and then finished.

All the same thoughts I've had.......
