SATURDAY 15th October: Birdwalk.
Cato: Dad had to go to work, so Mum and us went for a walk. We all wanted to try somewhere new and exciting, so Mum did GoogleFu and found us an interesting BirdReserve thing, which we all thought looked really interesting. Only it wasn't. Don't tell Mum, but me and Tara were a bit bored. Hopefully Mum won't take us there again.
IT was supposed to be all sniffy and full of interesting birds and paths and sucky sand, and stuff. But when we got there all the interesting bits had 'Keep On Leads' signs
And the only bit that we could let Mum off the lead was a boring straight bit, with no birds or sniffs. You will see what I mean.
This was the most birds we saw. they were all standing on the water! it was a miracle!!! But then Mum pointed out that they were all standing on sticks. Like the two you can see at the front of the pic.
this is the straight bit. All the way there...
these are two wind pumpy things. They are huge. 100s of feet high. And miles away.
this is looking out to sea. But it is all marsh grass and reserved birds and things. Mum said it wasn't a good idea to go exploring over there, in case we got stuck and sunk in the quicksand!
Mum was very sllllooooowwwwww
there was an interesting hole but really, it was a bit boring.
And then we walked all they way back
This was near where we had to put Mum back on the lead again. Those are mad golfers on the left, and mad car people who had broken down on the right. Mum asked if they needed any help, but they said 'no thank you' but Mum thinks they really did.
It was very grey and gloomy, and dampish, wasn't it?
Tara:
I know Cato woz bored, but I had fun! I drank out of puddles, and licked bird poop (until Mum saw me and made me stop )
And look wot I found! An interesting bridge:
Mum says I was showing Good Posture here
Mum says that this sniffy exciting thing is a WWII Pillbox
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_hardened_field_defences_of_World_War_II
She says that it woz to do with stopping people invading through the salty quicksand and marsh grass, and ppl would go inside and point banging guns out through the holes. I wanted to go inside, but Mum said no. It was a bit scary dark in there, so I had already decided I didn't want to go in.
Mum:
I kept looking for flowers, but apart from a few hawthorn bushes covered in berries, these are the best I could find. lol
Plantain (good for blisters)
and dandelion (good for staining hands, wetting the bed, feeding guineapigs and self seeding)
