TUESDAY 25th October: Cemetery Sniffs

Crinkly

Tara:

Cos Mum isn't working this week we are getting more fun walks!  IT is ACE.  I don't think Mum should work at all.  Then we could have nice walks every day.  She says that she is having another holiday.  But if that is true, why haven't we gone back to the Mountains to stay, and have Mountain adventures.  This can't be a PROPER holiday, can it?

We hadn't been to Our Field at the end of the road for AGES, so we went today.  It hadn't changed.

Lots of doggy sniffs and plenty of room for me to bounce!  hahaha!

Then we walked home through the cemetery.

Cato went on strike, as usual.  He won't say wot he doesn't like, but he REALLY doesn't like it.  He just sits down and holds us up.  But Mum just pulls him a bit until he stands up, and then we are off again.

We met the nice Treat Lady.  She goes to the cemetery every day, with the huge old dog.  Huge Old Dog just had a birthday, like me!  Only Huge Old Dog is eleven!!!  That is all four paws, the tail, both ears, both eyes, the mouth AND my nose!!!!  How can anyone be that old?

Then we came home along the slippy leaf street.  It is very slippy.  And sniffy.  Look:

Mum:

Lovely house.  Both doors belong to the same house.  The one on the left is the posh Front Door, and the one on the right is the 'back' door.  Weird, eh?  Don't often see it.  Presumably the 'back' door leads to a passage the length of the house to the kitchen.  For coal deliveries, and stuff.  But of course I am guessing.

The wisteria is turning colour beautifully this Autumn

And - TRAGIC NEWS - my lovely Daisy Villa has sold to someone else!  They had better look after it!  I will watch its progress and hopeful return to health, with great interest.

Mum, do you have any idea of what bothers Cato when you walk through the cemetery.  Maybe a patch of thorny grass or prickles?

I truly love the old house.  The brick is just wonderful on it.  I love how it is designed.

Mum:  he always goes on strike in roughly the same place.  We are always 50-100 yards from the gates, walking on the tarmac path.  It is always under the trees (see the first pic of cemetery above). We can be going in either direction.  He sits down and doesn't want to continue.  Just stares at us.

he can be 'encouraged' to walk on (pulling on lead til he stands up and walks).  Or he can be carried (Dad has done this several times).  Once, we dropped the lead and walked off.  He sat and watched us for 100 yards, then ran to catch up.

of course, he has 'gone on strike' many times - prickles in his knickers, metal grilles in ground, steep steps, when he is tired and wants a 'lift'.  But this is weird because it is roughly the same place every time - and he remembers it from the last time.  It must be 2 months since i took him through there, although Dad may have gone there more recently.

Tara never spooks at anything except big dogs, and she has never spooked in the cemetery.

i joke to them that it is Ghosties and Ghoulies and Things That Go Bump.  But if i was any of those, i would be tucked up snuggly in my bed at midday on a weekday. :)
