Luna 8,676
So, everyone knows we breed and show Shih Tzu, but a lot of people don't know that we've also grown orchids (across numerous genera) for nearly 20 years. Here is one I love that's blooming now: Paph. Pinnochio x Paph lowii. I love lowii and almost everything made with it so I selected this first-bloom seedling in bud thinking it had the potential to be something special. I think I was right!

Some genera are more delicate than others. One thing I look for when choosing plants is good substance to the petals. If I am familiar with the parents of a cross, I generally have a good idea of whether the offspring are also likely to have good substance. I have a hard time growing houseplants, but some orchids -particularly Phalaenopsis, Doritanopsis, Oncidiums, Cattleyas, Phragmipediums and Paphiopedalums do well for me.We have a couple of vandas we haven't managed to kill (yet) and are trying a Phaius hybrid for the first time right now. Since our space is limited, we tend to stick to mostly smaller-growing species and hybrids. I found even more! Forgot how I had catalogued them, lol. These are all still blooming, although the Phaius and the Oncidium are finishing. Oncidium hybrid: Peloric miniature hybrid Phalaenopsis hybrid: Phaius hybrid: Novelty Phalaenopsis hybrid:
